Tue 31st Aug 2021 - Achieve High-Precision Positioning Without the High Cost

Akribis - DGH SeriesWhen it comes to point-to-point motion in high-speed automated systems, high-performance positioning often comes with a price. Although pick-and-place, inspection, dispensing and scanning machines require micron precision from a linear positioning stage, that level of precision is difficult to find in an economical device. Most high-precision stages are also too large for the limited space in ever-shrinking automated systems.

Thankfully, automated or robotic machine designers no longer have to cope with price, size and performance tradeoffs. For example, a new linear motor positioning stage offers all the basics necessary for high-precision performance while maintaining an attractive price.

Balancing Quality and Cost

The Akribis DGH Series shares a similar design and dimensions to our primary DGL Series but includes advanced fabrication methods and higher precision-grade components to achieve:
  • Repeatability: +/- 0.5 µm.
  • Minimum incremental motion = 0.5 µm.
  • Accuracy (after mapping) = +/- 2 µm.
  • Pitch/roll/yaw = +/- 10 arc-sec.
  • A compact size.
Because the DGH Series focuses on the essentials — dual linear guides, linear motor, encoder feedback and an aluminium cover — machine designers can achieve precise positioning down to the sub-micron level, all while keeping costs in line. Our AUM linear motor with zero cogging is well-suited for velocity control and scanning applications. And for further economy, designers can choose the AJM linear motor with iron core and still achieve point-to-point motion.

In addition to its high precision, you can combine the DGH with other Akribis modules to create a multi-axis stage. The series has also passed rigorous safety tests to meet automated systems’ demanding load capacity to maximum velocity ratio while preventing damage to the stage and its surrounding components.

The result: a high-precision, high-performance linear motor positioning stage that achieves an optimal balance of quality and cost efficiency — all in a compact size.

Delivering the Essentials for Present and Future Challenges

Despite being faced with space and budget constraints, designers of high-speed automated systems still require precise point-to-point motion from their positioning stages. The DGH linear motor positioning stage provides all the necessary features to deliver sub-micron precision and keep costs in check. It also provides the modularity and safety essentials to meet present and future challenges in automated and high-speed systems.
